Did You Know...

North Carolina has new smoke and carbon

monoxide detector requirements?

Smoke Detectors are required to:

-On the ceiling or wall outside of each separate sleeping area with a closet.
-In each story within a dwelling unit, including basements and cellars but not including crawl spaces and attics without stairs.
-The units shall be interconnected such that the activation of one alarm will activate all alarms.
-When primary power is interrupted the smoke alarm shall receive power from a battery.

(National Electrical Code Section 210.71)

Carbon Monoxide are required in:

-Carbon Monoxide detectors are required in every home that has a fossil-fuel burning heater or appliance, fireplace, or an attached garage.

(N.C. Gen Stat. § 143-138 - North Carolina State Building Code)
